Info Graphics

What Is Information Graphics?
An information graphic is simply any image that conveys information. Bathroom icons in the airport, a stock chart, or a paragraph of text describing a museum exhibit are all information graphics.

What Can I Use T-Tools’ Imaglets For?
Imaglets are best suited to an application where the information represented in the graphic changes over time. Stock prices change minute by minute, so they are a good example of dynamic data. However, information that changes less frequently may also benefit from dynamic generation. Today's date changes once a day. An image that includes today's date would be a good candidate for Imaglets in order to avoid the expensive and hassle of recreating the graphic every day.

Even a fixed set of data makes a suitable subject for dynamic images if the way in which people want to view the information is dynamic. Last year's weather data is an example of a static data set that users might want to view in new ways.

Other examples of dynamic images include geographic maps, floor plans, and other representations of objects placed in a physical space, formatted text derived from periodically changing sources, analog clocks or calendars, graphics that can be personalized by changing colors or names, or any data that is stored in a database.

Do You Have Some Examples?

When Should I Avoid Using Imaglets?
When a unique static image will be used for a long time there may be no benefit to using Imaglets. Although Imaglets are easy to setup on your web site, they require a small amount of preparation and they also use some system resources when they are generated. If your image will not change for a long time, and you can create it easily using an existing application, like Photoshop, then you might be better off going the traditional route. For example, even though we used Imaglets to generate the navigation buttons on the left side of this page, we decided to store them as static files to avoid unnecessarily taxing our server.

How Do You Pronounce “Imaglet”?
Start with the word “image” and add “let” — “image-let”.
